EGR DELETE — 16-22 DURAMAX 2.8L
If a delete tune is already on the truck, you will get "Keep driving, regeneration in progress" when the battery is reconnected. Follow your tuner's instructions from when the tune was first loaded to clear it.
Removing the EGR housing, cooler and valve on a 2016–2022 Chevy Colorado / GMC Canyon 2.8L Duramax and fitting the blocker plates and coolant caps. The alternator, A/C compressor and throttle valve come off for access. You also need: 2 × 1 gallon jugs of Dex-Cool antifreeze (the refill takes a little under 2 gallons), and 1 small vacuum line cap. Tools: 10mm, 13mm, 15mm and 17mm wrenches; 8mm, 10mm, 13mm and 15mm sockets; T30 and T15 1/4" drive sockets; 5mm Allen 1/4" drive socket; 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" drive ratchets with short, medium and long extensions; 3/8" fuel line removal tool; T30 and flat blade screwdrivers; pliers for squeeze-type hose clamps; a knife for any hose the pliers cannot reach. The item numbers on some steps refer to the EGR breakdown diagram on the last step.
Steps
1 Disconnect the battery
10mm.
2 Remove the plastic engine cover
One T30 bolt.
3 Remove the insulation
4 Remove the intake air temperature sensor
17mm.
5 Disconnect the intercooler pipe from the throttle valve
Flat blade screwdriver. Item 1 on the breakdown.
6 Disconnect the fuel feed line
3/8" fuel line removal tool.
7 Take the belt off the alternator pulley
1/2" drive ratchet on the tensioner pulley.
8 Unplug and remove the throttle valve
Four T30 bolts. Item 40.
9 Unplug the connector on the top back of the alternator
10 Remove the battery wire from the alternator
One 13mm nut.
11 Unbolt the alternator
Two 15mm bolts.
12 Remove the driver side inner fender
Sixteen T15 screws.
13 Remove the skid plate
Four 15mm bolts.
14 Drain the coolant
15 Unbolt the A/C compressor
Two 13mm bolts and one 13mm nut. One bolt comes out from under the hood, the other bolt and the nut from the fender well.
16 Remove the upper radiator hose mount
One 13mm bolt.
17 Remove the front EGR cooler mount
One 13mm bolt. Item 26.
18 Remove the EGR bellows pipe
Two 8mm bolts and two 13mm bolts. Items 8, 9 and 10.
19 Unplug and remove the EGR temperature sensor
17mm. Item 13.
20 Remove the wiring harness nut
10mm.
21 Remove the engine dipstick bolt/stud
10mm.
22 Unplug and remove the EGR valve
Four T30 bolts.
23 Remove the upper coolant hose from the EGR
Item 30.
24 Remove the upper coolant hose barb from the EGR housing
One T30 bolt. Items 17 and 18.
25 Remove the EGR cooler from the EGR housing
Six 5mm Allen bolts. Items 27 and 28.
26 Remove the lower coolant hose from the EGR
If you cannot get it off, cut it.
27 Remove the lower coolant hose barb from the EGR housing
One T30 bolt. Items 19 and 20.
28 Remove the EGR mixing valve vacuum line and cap the open valve
Item 11. Use the small vacuum line cap.
29 Remove the fuel line support bracket
One 15mm bolt. Access is from under the truck and through the fender well; turn the steering to full right lock.
30 Remove the EGR support bracket bolt
One 15mm bolt. Items 21 and 22. Same access: from under the truck and the fender well, steering at full right lock.
31 Remove the dipstick tube
One 10mm bolt.
32 Remove the four nuts holding the EGR housing to the cylinder head
13mm. Item 15. Two can be reached from the top; the other two come out from under the truck and the fender well.
33 Remove the EGR housing
Item 45. It is hard to get out. Keep working it like a Rubik's cube and it will come.
34 Remove the coolant hoses from the thermostat housing
35 Install the new gasket and blocker plate on the cylinder head
Four 13mm nuts. Use the included spacers and the factory nuts.
36 Install the aluminium blocker plate on the intake manifold
Two 8mm bolts. Use the factory bolts.
37 Cap the thermostat housing and the upper radiator hose nipple
Use the supplied silicone caps and hose clamps.
38 Refit the dipstick on the engine
One 10mm bolt.
39 Bolt the wiring harness and dipstick together with the factory stud
The stud removed from the dipstick and harness earlier, with its 10mm nut.
40 Refit the upper coolant hose bracket above the A/C compressor
One 13mm bolt.
41 Refit the A/C compressor
One 13mm bolt on top, one 13mm bolt and one 13mm nut in the fender well. Line up the bolt on the back of the compressor first.
42 Refit the alternator
Two 15mm bolts.
43 Refit the positive wire on the alternator
One 13mm nut.
44 Refit the plug on the alternator
45 Refit the throttle valve
Clean it before it goes back on.
46 Refit the fuel line
47 Refit the intercooler pipe
Flat blade screwdriver.
48 Refit the intake air temperature sensor
17mm.
49 Close the coolant drain on the radiator
50 Fill the coolant and check for leaks
It takes a little under 2 gallons to refill the system.
