EGR DELETE — 14-18 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE ECODIESEL 3.0L
Not legal for sale or use on pollution-controlled motor vehicles anywhere. Legal only for off-road competition race vehicles that are not operated on public streets, roads or highways. By installing this product you assume all risk and liability for its use, it is your responsibility to comply with all federal, state and local emissions laws, and it may void the manufacturer's warranty. The bolts holding the exhaust-to-EGR feed pipe are notorious for binding and breaking. Soak them in penetrating fluid and work each one in and out.
Removing the EGR and its feed pipes on a 2014–2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.0L EcoDiesel, fitting the intake and exhaust block off plates, and rerouting the coolant with the supplied hose. The exhaust comes off for access. Tune first. Depending on the tuning you chose, that is done through the OBD2 port with HP Tuners after your ECM is unlocked, or by sending the ECM in for a bench flash. Follow the tuning instructions for your package before removing anything. Recommended tools: flashlight, flat head screwdriver, small pick, cutoff pliers, flush cut pliers, socket and wrench set, zap straps, plenty of penetrating fluid. Kit contents: • 1 × intake block off plate (030-EGR-A067) • 1 × exhaust block off plate • 1 × coolant hose with brass fitting installed • 7 × bolts • 2 × nuts • 2 × worm gear clamps • 2 × zap straps • 1 × vacuum cap
Steps
1 Tune the vehicle before removing anything
Through the OBD2 port with HP Tuners once your ECM is unlocked, or by sending the ECM in for a bench flash, depending on the tuning you bought. Follow the tuning instructions for your package.
2 Cool down, disconnect the battery, drain the coolant, and disconnect the EGR
Disconnect the electrical connectors, including the throttle valve. Remove the vacuum line running from the control solenoid to the EGR and cap it with the supplied vacuum cap. Remove the feed pipe that connects the EGR to the intake manifold.
3 Remove the exhaust, then the EGR mounting bolts and the exhaust feed pipe
With the exhaust off you can reach the 3 mounting bolts for the EGR on the side of the engine; remove them. Then remove the 3 bolts holding the exhaust-to-EGR feed pipe at the back of the engine. Removing the differential pressure sensor and its bracket from the side of the transmission gives better access.
Those feed pipe bolts are notorious for binding and breaking. Use lots of penetrating fluid and work each bolt in and out. The right-hand photo shows the pipe removed and the blocker plate already installed.
4 Remove both coolant lines from the EGR and free the feed pipe
From the top, unbolt both coolant lines from the EGR. To make the EGR easier to get out, remove the top bolt and loosen the lower bolt where the exhaust feed pipe meets the EGR, so the pipe can rotate as the EGR comes out.
5 Reroute the coolant
Remove the rear coolant hose and its plastic fitting from the metal pipe, keeping the orange gasket on the fitting. Bolt that hose and fitting onto the metal pipe that used to feed the front of the EGR, using the supplied nuts and bolts, and turn the rubber hose so it faces the rear of the vehicle.
Then fit the supplied coolant hose with the brass fitting: the barbed end goes into the hose you just turned rearward, and the open end goes onto the metal pipe that used to feed the rear of the EGR. Trim the supplied hose for a proper fit if needed.
6 Install the block off plates
One at the intake manifold and one at the exhaust feed port at the rear of the engine.
We also recommend a tack weld on the NOx sensor, the lower sensor in the down pipe, as it tends to come loose and cause a large exhaust leak. The O2 sensor above it is welded too but does not normally come loose.
7 Tie up loose connectors, refill the coolant and refit the exhaust
Recheck every installed component first. The remaining photos are for reference.
