EGT PROBE KIT — RACEME ULTRA & MM3
Unplug the OBD2 connector before plugging the module into the controller. If the module is connected with the tuner powered, the EGT parameter does not appear in the list; the fix is in the steps. The fitting's ferrule is small and easy to lose if you take the fitting apart.
Fitting the EGT probe kit to a RaceMe Ultra or MM3 tuner and putting exhaust gas temperature on one of the dashboard gauges. The kit has three parts: the module, the probe, and the compression fitting. Mount the module inside the cab with the rest of the tuner parts. That way the small white four-wire connector never has to be pushed through the firewall, where it is easily damaged.
Steps
1 Plug the module into the controller
With the OBD2 connector unplugged, plug the module into the white four-pin socket in the end of the controller.
2 Run the probe wire through the firewall
The stainless probe wire goes through into the engine bay. The transmission shift cable boot next to the steering column is a good place.
3 Connect the probe wires to the module
The two probe wires go to the two screw terminals on the module. Match the wire colours, not the crimp connector colours. Run the probe wire towards the passenger side of the engine, and cover it with wire loom: the stainless braid is abrasive and rubs through engine components.
4 Fit the probe fitting
The compression fitting has three pieces: adapter, ferrule and nut. Thread the adapter into the exhaust manifold, either by drilling and tapping the manifold to 1/8" NPT or into the rear block-off plate of the EGR delete kit. Either place gives accurate readings.
5 Fit the probe
Slide the probe through the nut, then the ferrule, then the fitting, and tighten the nut to hold it. Do not overtighten. In most cases sink the probe until its 90-degree bend sits at the fitting, so the sensing tip is in the exhaust flow.
6 Open PID Config on the tuner
Reconnect the OBD2 connector and turn the ignition to Run without starting the truck. From the gauge display, touch the screen once for the temporary menu and select PID CONFIG.
7 Choose the gauge and change it to a temperature
Select the gauge you want to show EGT, then CHANGE, and scroll the list of parameters to TEMPERATURE.
8 Select RACEME EGT SENSOR TEMP
Pick it from the temperature list, then Return to Dashboard. The gauge you chose now reads exhaust gas temperature.
9 If the EGT parameter is not in the list
The module was plugged in while the tuner had power. Unplug the OBD2 cord for one minute, then start again from step 6.
10 Alarms, ranges and calibration
Alarms: set a minimum or maximum that beeps and flashes a warning on the right of the display when exceeded. Ranges: set the gauge's start and end values and the cold and hot zones. Sensor Calibration: enter an offset to the sensor's reading.
11 If the EGT reading stops
Check the sensor status under Main Menu, Info, RACEME ULTRA EGT SENSOR TEMP. Under Fault Flags: Sensor OK means connected with no fault. Sensor Open is a break between the probe and the module. Short To Ground means a grounded or faulty sensor. Sensor Not Found is a break between the white four-pin connector and the controller.
