SCT X4 / BDX / LIVEWIRE / GTX — LOADING YOUR CUSTOM TUNES
Put a charger on the truck before you start, with good batteries and clean terminals. Buy a new battery if yours is doubtful. Unplug or pull the fuses on any aftermarket accessories. If you need SCT's help with the tuner itself, call them on 866-637-1672, but do not mention that you are loading custom or delete tunes. If you say anything about emissions equipment being removed they will not be able to help you.
Getting your custom delete tunes onto the truck with an SCT X4, Livewire or GTX, or a Bully Dog BDX. The tunes are cloud based, so the tuner needs Wi-Fi the first time; a phone hotspot works. Once they are on the device you switch between them without Wi-Fi. The delete tunes are labelled Heavy Tow, Light Tow, MPG/Street, Race and SOTF. Only install SOTF if the switch-on-the-fly switch is already wired in. The tuner updates itself over Wi-Fi when it first connects to the truck, which can take 10 to 30 minutes. The Windows Device Updater is the alternative for both updating and loading tunes.
Steps
1 Prepare the truck
Connect a battery charger. Check the batteries are good and the terminals clean. Unplug any aftermarket accessories or pull their fuses so nothing interrupts the flash.
2 Plug the tuner into the truck
Connect it to the OBDII port under the dash and let it power up.
3 Connect to Wi-Fi and let the tuner update
When the tuner asks, join your Wi-Fi network, or turn on your phone's hotspot and join that. The tuner then updates itself to the truck, which takes roughly 10 to 30 minutes. Let it finish.
4 Download your tunes from the cloud
Go to the download tunes section and select Yes. When it asks whether to check the cloud for tunes, select Yes. You get a list of the tunes for your truck; download all of them now. From then on you change between tunes without Wi-Fi.
5 Install a tune from Custom Tuning
Go to Custom Tuning and pick one of the off-road delete tunes: Heavy Tow, Light Tow, MPG/Street, Race or SOTF. Only install SOTF if the switch-on-the-fly switch is already installed on the truck. The tuner writes the tune to the truck; once it reads 100% complete you are good to go.
6 Update or load the tunes through a PC instead
Download the SCT Device Updater, also called the SCT Update Agent, from SCT and Bully Dog's shared download at cdn.sctbullydog.com/software/SCTDeviceUpdater.exe. It is Windows only; there is no Mac version. Keep the tuner unplugged while the installer runs, and on some PCs you need to right-click and Run as Administrator.
Plug the tuner into the computer with its USB cable, open the updater and choose Automatically Check for Updates to bring the device up to date, then Load Cloud Tunes. The same tune list downloads to the device.
7 Transmission relearn on a 6R140
Optional. If your 2011–2019 6.7L took transmission tuning, the three-run relearn in the 6R140 Transmission Relearn guide gives the adaptive memory a good baseline. It is not required; the transmission learns on its own over time.
