RACEME ULTRA PROGRAMMING — 07-24 CUMMINS 6.7L
Never program with the engine running, and never interrupt a programming session. Most trucks take about six minutes. If programming stops with an error, write the number down before doing anything else. The common codes and what to do are in the troubleshooting step at the end.
Setting up the RaceMe Ultra on a 2007.5–2024 RAM 2500/3500 6.7L Cummins: updating it, finding your way around the screen, choosing basic or advanced tuning, what each advanced setting does, and programming the ECM. Program the truck before any hard parts come off. It is not strictly necessary, but it means you are never left with a no-start if there is a problem with the tuner. Connect a battery charger on a 10 amp charge before every programming session. Low voltage during tuning causes many problems. Updates, tutorials and videos are at racemecanada.com. Your tuner's software version shows bottom left on the Main Menu; compare it with the latest in the release notes on the website and update before you start.
Steps
1 Update the tuner to the latest software and firmware
Strongly recommended, for every feature and the fewest issues. Check the version bottom left on the Main Menu against the release notes at racemecanada.com, and follow the update tutorial there if it is behind.
2 Connect a 10 amp battery charger and power the tuner on
Turn the key to Run without starting the truck. With a push button, press it twice without touching the brake. If the tuner is connected properly it powers itself on. Accept the disclaimer and it lands on dashboard A, the gauge display.
3 Touch the screen to open the quick menu
It times out back to the dashboard if you do nothing. The options are:
Main Menu: programming, settings and information.
Dashboard: back to the gauges.
PID Config: customise the gauges on the dashboards.
Dash Log: records the gauges shown on the dashboard, and can be emailed to RaceMe tech for diagnostics.
HSLog: records every parameter on the truck, also for RaceMe tech.
Previous and Next: cycle through dashboards D, C, B, A and back.
Max Reset: resets the max values on digital gauges.
Switch: select HP level 0 to 5 while the engine is running.
RT: real time tuning, advanced tune changes while the engine is running.
POD: power on demand. Not available on 2013 and newer.
4 Open Main Menu, then ECM Tuning, then ECM
5 Choose basic tuning, advanced tuning, or a stock file
Basic tuning skips every advanced setting and goes straight to the program screen. RT, Dash Log, HSLog, transmission tuning and the top speed limiter are disabled, and power levels are changed afterwards with Switch on the quick menu.
Advanced tuning gives the full tuner: RT, Dash Log, HSLog, transmission tuning, duration, rail pressure, timing, torque management (not on 2013+), VGT and the speed limiter.
Get Stock File for Truck is only for custom tuning. It writes a stock image to the SD card that you email to a custom tuner.
6 Choose the delete option
Delete Only, Stock Power: skips the advanced settings but still allows transmission tuning and a speed limiter change.
Deletes With Increased Power: every advanced function.
7 Set the duration
How much fuel the injectors spray at the main injection event, set as HP gains above stock: 30, 60, 120, 150 or 200 HP.
8 Set the rail pressure
The maximum pressure the injectors receive from the high pressure pump: Stock (26,107 psi), 1850 bar (26,831 psi), 1900 bar (27,557 psi) or 2000 bar (29,007 psi).
9 Set the timing
When the injector fires relative to piston TDC, as a maximum: Stock (17°), 23°, 29° or 35°.
10 Set the VGT
How the variable nozzle ring in the turbo's exhaust housing responds, which controls turbo speed, drive pressure and boost. Stock, Economy Spool, Mild Spool or Quick Spool. These change how the turbo responds to input more than how much boost you get.
11 Set the torque management
How much defueling the ECM does against RPM, load and throttle to protect the transmission: Stock, Low-Mild, Mild, Medium or Wild. Not available on 2013 and newer trucks.
12 Set the transmission tune
Full transmission tunes: raised line pressure, firmer shifts, changed wide-open-throttle shift points, and a high gear shift delay to stop shifting out and lugging at low speed. No Tuning leaves the transmission alone; Stock Transmission is for an unmodified transmission (185 psi max); Aftermarket Transmission is for a modified one (225 psi max). If the option is not shown, it is not available for your transmission.
13 How to change a setting
Touch the green bar for the parameter you want to change and the selection page opens. Touch the blue bar you want, and the screen returns to green bars showing your new choice. The "default" shown against some parameters is what the truck gets if you change nothing. Do the same for every parameter you want, then touch Next.
14 Set the speed limiter
The truck's top speed in MPH. Default is stock, 102.5 MPH. To change it, touch the green speed limiter bar, type a value from 25 to 250 MPH, and press Enter.
15 Press Program
Most trucks take about six minutes. If you get an error code as programming starts, write the number down: the next step lists the common ones.
16 If you see an error code
14000: the RSA unlock cable is not plugged in correctly. See the hardware connection manual for the right connections.
12163: the engine is running. The tuner cannot write the ECM while it is in use. Shut the engine off and follow the prompts.
15012: communication error between the communication module and the controller. Recheck that connection.
12202: update to the latest firmware and retry.
14243: the ECM did not accept the data. Key off, disconnect both battery negatives for 30 minutes to reset the ECM, then retry.
17 Cycle the ignition off, on, off to finish
When the progress bar reaches 100% the tuner asks for the ignition off, then on, then off again. That finalises the session, and the last screen confirms the tune went into the ECM correctly. You can now start the truck.
